FAST Heroes: Learning to Recognise the Signs of Stroke

During the June holiday programme, our Nursery 2 children participated in the FAST Heroes programme, where they were introduced to the warning signs of stroke in a fun, engaging, and age-appropriate way.

Through stories, songs, games, and role-play, the children explored the FAST acronym—Face drooping, Arm weakness, Slurred speech, and Time to call for help. These interactive experiences helped them understand that recognising the signs early and informing a trusted adult can make a difference during a stroke emergency.

As the children became more familiar with the FAST message, they also developed a greater awareness of the well-being of their grandparents and loved ones. The activities encouraged meaningful conversations about looking out for one another and reminded the children that even at a young age, they could contribute by staying calm, recognising when someone may need help, and seeking assistance from a trusted adult.

The FAST Heroes programme complemented our SSDB initiative, Caring for the Elderly, by helping the children understand that caring extends beyond acts of kindness. It also means being aware, showing concern for the people around us, and knowing how to respond appropriately when someone needs help. The knowledge and confidence they gained through this experience laid an important foundation for the meaningful intergenerational experiences that followed.
