As we came to the close of our Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project, centred on the theme of Family, we brought our children and families together for a special Family Day on 24 July 2026 at Kaki Bukit Community Club.
Family Day was a meaningful celebration of the relationships, values, and experiences that we had explored throughout our SSDB journey. It was a morning filled with laughter, movement, creativity and, most importantly, opportunities for families to spend quality time together.
Our Family Day was centred around five important values: Love, Care, Respect, Honesty and Responsibility. Through age-appropriate games and activities, children had the opportunity to explore what these values look and feel like within their own families.
The different stations encouraged children and their family members to participate, communicate and work together. From discovering hearts at the Love station to navigating an obstacle course at the Care station, each activity provided a fun way for families to learn and bond together.
At the Respect station, children explored different ways of showing respect through pictures and movement. The Honesty station created opportunities for parents and children to share meaningful moments and talk about times when they had demonstrated honesty. At the Responsibility station, families worked together in a clean-up game, encouraging children to see how everyone can play a part in caring for their surroundings.
Walking Together as a Family The day began with families coming together for a walkathon from the centre to Kaki Bukit Community Club. Families took turns carrying the SSDB banner as they made their way together.
The walkathon was more than just a journey from one place to another. It represented the spirit of our SSDB project, families walking, learning and growing together.
Our children also took centre stage with an energetic cheerleading performance. The children from the Skool Ready classes performed their songs and cheers, bringing plenty of excitement to the morning.
The performances were a wonderful opportunity for our children to build confidence, demonstrate their engagement and celebrate their learning with their families.
One of the highlights was the parent-child baton relay, where parents and children worked as a team and ran together. The activity encouraged families to support one another and persevere as they worked towards a common goal.
Families also enjoyed a storytelling session, craft activities and other interactive booths. These shared experiences gave parents and children opportunities to play alongside one another and create happy memories together.
The Family Day celebration reminded us that meaningful family connections can be built through simple momentsβplaying a game together, listening to one another, sharing a laugh, creating something with our hands or simply spending time side by side.
As we conclude our Start Small Dream Big project, we are grateful to all the families who joined us and made Family Day such a memorable occasion.
Through this journey, our children discovered that family is about love, care, respect, honesty and responsibility. Most importantly, they experienced these values not only through classroom learning, but through meaningful interactions with the people closest to them.
Together, we started small, dreamed big, and grew stronger as a family. π
