Embarking on Our SSDB Journey: Caring for Seniors in Our Community

Our Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) journey began with the launch of our project, “Intergenerational Connections – Caring for Seniors in Our Community.”

Through an interactive sharing, our K1 and K2 children were introduced to the idea of growing older and encouraged to think about the seniors in their own families and community. Together, we explored how seniors may have different needs and how even simple actions can help them feel cared for, respected and included.

The children were invited to share what they already knew about seniors and the ways we can show kindness and respect towards them. Through discussions and simple scenarios, they considered actions such as greeting seniors warmly, speaking politely, offering help and spending time together.

The launch helped children see that caring for others does not always require a big gesture — a smile, a kind word or simply taking the time to connect with someone can make a difference.

With the project officially launched, the children were ready to turn these ideas into meaningful experiences.

Our K1 children would explore intergenerational connections closer to home through a Neighbourhood Walk with their grandparents, while our K2 children would venture into the wider community to meet and interact with seniors at Lion Befrienders Active Ageing Centre.

These experiences were designed to give children opportunities to put kindness into action, build confidence in interacting across generations, and discover that meaningful connections can be formed regardless of age.

And with that, our SSDB journey began —

one small act of care at a time.
