On 18 September 2026, as part of our Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) journey, the Nursery 2, Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 children from M.Y World@Compassvale Ancilla participated in a heart warming activity with 62 seniors from Precious Active Ageing Centre. Titled “Turning Waste into Joy ,” the session aimed to promote sustainability and strengthen bonds between the young and the elderly.
As part of our sustainability journey, the children learned how everyday materials that are usually discarded could be reused and transformed into something meaningful. Before the visit, the children collected used tissue paper from hand-drying, which was then prepared together with other reusable materials such as straws, chopsticks, and newspapers. At Precious Active Ageing Centre, Teacher Ionneh introduced the purpose of the activity before the children created their own flowers using the recycled and reused materials. After completing their creations, the children personally presented the handmade flowers to the 61 elderly participants, creating opportunities for warm interactions, smiles, and conversations.
This meaningful experience reflected the spirit of “With Every Child, We Shape Tomorrow.” By turning discarded materials into beautiful gifts, the children discovered that waste can be given a new life and purpose, while their creations can also bring happiness to others. Through the 30-minute intergenerational experience, the children developed care, respect, appreciation, and environmental responsibility. Most importantly, they experienced how a simple sustainable action could be transformed into an act of kindness—turning waste into joy and making a positive difference in the community.
