In celebration of Mother’s Day and as part of our Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) journey, M.Y World@Compassvale Ancilla carried out “Little Blooms, Big Love – Honouring Mothers in Our Centre and Community.” The activity provided children with an opportunity to express their appreciation for mothers and women in the community while promoting the meaningful use of recycled materials.

The children created colourful handmade flowers using recycled materials. Strips of coloured paper were reused to form the flower petals and leaves, while rolled newspaper was repurposed to create the stems. Through the activity, children discovered that simple materials can be creatively transformed into beautiful and meaningful gifts instead of being discarded. After completing the flowers, the children shared their creations with the mothers and women working in our centre, expressing their appreciation through a simple handmade gesture. The children then extended their act of kindness beyond the preschool by going into the neighbouring community to present their flowers to women they met at nearby shops and community spaces.

This experience allowed the children to see how a small handmade gift could bring smiles and joy to others. It also encouraged them to interact with members of the community and develop values of care, gratitude, respect, and generosity. The activity beautifully reflected the spirit of “With Every Child, We Shape Tomorrow.” Through their little blooms, the children shared big love—not only with the mothers and women in our centre, but also with those in the wider community. It reinforced the message that small acts of kindness and sustainable choices can come together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and in caring for our environment.
