The Early Years children from Playgroup and Pre-Nursery had a wonderful hands-on experience growing and caring for their own Xiao Bai Cai (小白菜) using recycled materials since early July 2026. The children reused the Styrofoam as planting pots, filling them with soil and carefully placing the vegetable seeds inside. Throughout the growing process, the children took turns watering the plants and observing how the seeds gradually sprouted and developed into young vegetables. They were excited to see the changes in their plants and learned that plants need water, sunlight, soil and care to grow healthily. Through this experience, the children developed an appreciation for nature and learned about the importance of caring for living things, reducing waste and reusing materials. The activity also encouraged responsibility, patience and a sense of ownership as the children worked together to nurture their Xiao Bai Cai from seeds into growing vegetables.
The Final day was here, on 9 Sept 2026, the children were excited to harvest the Xiao Bai Cai that they had carefully grown and nurtured using recycled materials. With the guidance of their teachers, they gently picked the vegetables and observed their fresh green leaves.
On 10 Sept 2026, the harvested Xiao Bai Cai was then brought to Monfort Senior Care, where the children had the meaningful opportunity to share their harvest with the elderly. This experience allowed the children to see the fruits of their hard work while learning the importance of caring for plants, reducing waste, and sharing with others. It was a meaningful experience that encouraged kindness, generosity, and a sense of community.
