Raising Awareness on food wastage.

Children of PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Eunos Blk 620 (CC) gathered before the visit to the resident garden and were introduced to what they could observe in the garden. Teacher encouraged the children to look out for different plants, flowers, insects, and gardening tools.

During the visit, the children were shown the composting area where residents had placed fruit peels, vegetable scraps, and dried leaves to decompose. The teacher explained that these food and garden wastes Raising Awareness on food wastage

Before participating in the gardening activity, the children toured the garden and observed the vegetables grown by the residents. The teacher explained how the vegetables were planted and cared for, helping the children learn about the gardening process before they began the activity.

The children participated in a gardening activity where they used small tools and their hands to loosen the soil. They gently dug, scooped, and crumbled the soil while exploring its texture and appearance. The activity provided opportunities for sensory exploration and hands-on learning. By loosening and observing the soil, the children developed their fine motor skills, curiosity, and understanding of the natural environment. While working, they carefully observed their surroundings, including the plants, insects, and garden environment. The children were also introduced to the decomposition materials prepared by the resident, such as fruit peels, vegetable stems, and dried leaves that had broken down into nutrient-rich compost. They explored the compost by looking closely at its colour, texture, and smell, and learned how food waste can be transformed into soil that helps plants grow.
