This workshop aims to educate parents on the importance of sustainability by demonstrating how recycled materials and food waste can be transformed into valuable resources for growing Xiao Bai Cai. Many households generate recyclable items and food scraps daily, which often end up as waste. Through this workshop, parents will learn practical ways to reduce waste by reusing containers as planting pots and converting fruit and vegetable scraps into compost. The workshop also encourages parents and children to participate in hands-on gardening activities together, fostering environmental awareness and responsibility within the family. By growing their own vegetables, families can gain a better understanding of where food comes from, develop an appreciation for the resources required to produce food, and cultivate healthier eating habits. Through this experience, parents will be empowered to adopt sustainable practices at home, reduce food wastage, and create meaningful learning opportunities for their children while contributing to a greener and more sustainable community.
Each family was tasked to bring a recycled bubble tea plastic cup to use as a plant pot. The children and their parents worked together to fill the recycled cup with soil and carefully placed the seeds into the soil. Through this hands on activity, the children learned about recycled, planting and caring for plants while enjoyed meaningful bonding time with their parents. The activity also encouraged families to practise sustainable habits and reused everyday material creatively.
