The terrarium-making activity served as a hands-on extension of our "Planting a SEED of Kindness" project, allowing children to translate the values explored in theory into a tangible, lasting creation of their own. As they carefully layered soil, selected plants and arranged their terrariums, children practised care and learned that living things need gentle, attentive handling to thrive. Taking ownership of their own terrarium also nurtured a sense of responsibility, as each child understood that their creation would need ongoing care — watering, sunlight and upkeep — even after the activity ended. Handling natural materials such as soil, pebbles and plants thoughtfully helped children develop respect for the environment, while keeping their layering neat and their work area tidy reinforced habits of cleanliness and orderliness. Quietly woven through the activity was also a lesson in patience and reflection, as children discovered that unlike instant results, a terrarium — like kindness — grows slowly and needs consistent care over time. In creating their own terrariums, children didn't just plant a seed; they took home a living reminder that kindness, like nature, needs to be tended to daily in order to grow and flourish.
