SSDB Launch at Gardens By the Bay

Khalsa Kindergarten proudly launched the SSDB with the focus on ‘With Every Child, We Shape Tomorrow’ at Gardens by the Bay over two joyful and fruitful days. The launch, began on 4th February with our enthusiastic K2 children, followed by our lively K1 and Nursery children on 5th February.

The event was filled with excitement as the children attended the workshops to enhance their knowledge on plants around the world, marking a meaningful milestone for the school. Children participated in workshops that were designed to deepen their knowledge of plants and their diverse roles in ecosystems, culture, and daily life.

This milestone marked not only a celebration of curiosity and discovery but also a commitment to experiential learning that connects science, health, and global citizenship. It was a memorable experience for everyone involved, set against the beautiful backdrop of Gardens by the Bay. We are proud of our young learners for their participation and look forward to more enriching experiences ahead.

Story 1 - Appreciating the Nature

Since Khalsa Kindergarten launched SSDB at Gardens by the Bay, different levels attend 3 different workshops to enhance their knowledge on plants.

Nursery children attended the workshop on ‘Keep in Shape’ programme. Children had the opportunity to explore the Flower Dome to discover the plants of different shapes and sizes. They were introduced to round and spiky cacti and conical trees.

Children learnt to identify living and non-living things, to recognise how plants have adapted to their environment, to describe how plants are used and to name and recognise different shapes K1 children attended the ‘Chew on this’ workshop where they had the opportunity to explore Flower Dome to learn about edible plants. They explored nature and discovered the different parts of the plant that could be eaten and view plants that provide us with food, such as fig and olive trees. As they walk through the gardens, they will observe different plants, fruits, and vegetables, talk about how plants grow, and learn why eating healthy food helps our bodies stay strong

K2 children attended the workshop on ‘Wise Wee and little adventures’ and they had the opportunity to explore the Flower Dome with the bear botanist, Wise Wee! Children met his plant friends, Willy the Woolly Cactus, Bobo the Baobab, as they went on a journey to discover why the plants were so special. Children learnt to describe how plants are used, to recognise how plants adapt to survive in harsh environments, to appreciate the unique features of certain plants and their respective habitats and to recognise the importance of protecting plants.
