Before the official launch of our SSDB project, children were invited to share their thoughts and experiences about food. Through guided conversations, educators encouraged the children to reflect on the food they eat, the importance of making healthy food choices, and simple ways they could help to reduce food wastage. These conversations provided opportunities for children to recognise that even small actions can make a difference in caring for our food and the environment.

Our centre officially launched the SSDB project, titled “Little Food Heroes,” on 28 May. The project aimed to expose children to a wider variety of local produce and encourage them to become more adventurous and healthy eaters, while developing greater awareness of food wastage.

As part of the launch, each child received a fruit-shaped cut-out to decorate. With the support of their teachers, the children shared their ideas on how they could become “Little Food Heroes” by saving food and reducing wastage. Their meaningful pledges were displayed in the classroom as a visual reminder of the small but important actions they could take each day.

A food picnic was also held as part of our SSDB Launch Day for our Playgroup and Nursery 1 children. Parents were invited to prepare healthy food for their children to bring and share with their peers. The experience encouraged children to explore and enjoy a variety of nutritious foods while learning about sharing and appreciating the food they had. They were also encouraged to take only what they could eat, helping them develop an early awareness of reducing food wastage.
