During the June Holiday period, children participated in a variety of activities based on lesson plans provided by our partner, The Rasa Project. Through hands-on experiences, the children explored food using their five senses, discovering different sounds, textures, smells and tastes.
These experiences encouraged children to become more curious and open towards foods that were not usually part of their meals at the centre. By providing opportunities to explore and try new foods in a fun and meaningful manner, children were supported in becoming more confident, adventurous and healthy eaters.
On 19 June, our Centre embarked on a learning journey to a neighbourhood wet market, where the Nursery 1 children explored the wide variety of fruits and vegetables available. They were encouraged to use their senses of sight, touch and smell as they discovered and talked about different types of produce.
The children were also given the opportunity to pack their own Xiao Bai Chye to bring home and share with their families, together with a packet of fruits. This hands-on experience helped children develop a greater appreciation for fresh, local produce and encouraged them to make healthier food choices. It also provided opportunities for them to extend their learning and conversations about food with their families at home!
