The children had a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Chinese New Year together with the elders from Sunlove Active Day Care Centre at our preschool. The celebration provided a meaningful platform for the children and seniors to come together, interact and build positive relationships across generations.

During the celebration, the children and elders participated in a variety of Chinese New Year-themed activities, allowing them to learn, play and enjoy the festive occasion together. The children were encouraged to interact with the elders, practise showing respect and kindness, and learn more about the traditions and customs associated with Chinese New Year.

One of the highlights was the Lo Hei (Yusheng) session, where the children and elders came together to toss the yusheng while sharing auspicious wishes for good health, happiness, abundance and prosperity. The lively activity created a joyful atmosphere and encouraged everyone to participate and celebrate together.

Through this intergenerational experience, the children developed important values such as respect, empathy, kindness and inclusiveness. They learnt that celebrations are opportunities to bring people together, appreciate different cultures and create meaningful connections within the community.

The celebration also encouraged the children to see themselves as active and caring members of the community, who can contribute to making others feel welcomed, valued and included. It was a meaningful opportunity for both the children and elders to share the festive joy and create memorable moments together.
