Understanding Macaques in the Wild (Part 1)

Our learning journey began when our class joined the SSDB project with Mandai Wildlife Reserve. We chose the Long-tailed Macaque as our animal to learn about because we wanted to understand more about this native wildlife and how people can live peacefully with them. To introduce the topic, the teacher first read a storybook about the Long-tailed Macaque. The children listened with great interest and learned about where the macaques live, what they eat, and how they behave. The story sparked their curiosity and encouraged them to think about the lives of these animals.

Next, the teacher showed the children posters, pictures, and a video about the Long-tailed Macaque. The children observed the macaques closely and talked about what they noticed. They discussed the macaques' habitat, their behaviour, and why they are sometimes seen in places where people live. These learning experiences helped the children understand the connection between humans and wildlife.
