Turning trash into treasure

Our kids were unanimous in their support in this year’s SSDB project in showing their care for nature and the environment. They contributed ideas on how they can do so and thus embarked on the following little projects.

They collected leaves from the nearby park and made beautiful collages using the leaves that had fallen on the ground.

The toilet tissue cardboard rolls which were usually discarded were recycled and made into beautiful pencil holders.

Eggshells that were usually thrown away were decorated and used as a mini pots to plant green beans for their Science project to observe and document plant growth.

Food wastes like banana/carrot/apple peels, stem/roots of vegetables and eggshells were used to make compost for our school garden.

Our parents were also roped in to donate their kids’ overgrown clothes and toys to the school in support for our stakeholder-The Salvation Army. Our parents were very supportive in this project and contributed generously to the cause instead of discarding their used items.

The children had a lot to take home from all these little projects to care for nature and our environment.

One K2 child even remarked that when he grows up and marry and have children, he will teach his children to learn to care for nature and the environment. This is so because when he should pass on, his children will carry on the legacy so that Earth will not be so hot and the next generation can have a better life. What a mouthful of words and wisdom coming from a preschooler!
