SSDB Project — Go Green SG 2026! 🌱💚
Infant — Watering Plants with Parents 🌱💧
What We Did: Infants explored the joy of growing plants together with their parents at home. Using cotton placed inside an egg tray, families planted seeds and sprayed them with water daily. Together, they observed the seeds as they slowly changed and grew.
What Children Learnt: Through this simple experience, children began to develop care and responsibility, build a connection with nature, and express curiosity and wonder as they observed changes in their plants. It also created meaningful opportunities for bonding and shared discovery with their parents.
Playgroup — Watering Plants with Parents 🌱💦
What We Did: Playgroup children worked alongside their parents to create their own mini planting activity at home. Seeds were placed on cotton inside an egg tray and watered daily using a spray bottle. The children were encouraged to observe the changes as their seeds began to grow.
What Children Learnt: The experience encouraged care and responsibility as children helped to care for their plants. They developed a connection with nature while using their senses to observe changes, encouraging curiosity and discovery. Most importantly, the activity provided a meaningful opportunity for children and parents to learn and bond together.
Pre-Nursery — Parents’ Collaboration: Recycled Items Collection ♻️
What We Did: Children and their families worked together to collect clean recyclable materials from home, such as cans, bottles and boxes. The collected items were brought to school, where children explored and sorted the materials into their correct recycling groups.
What Children Learnt: Through this experience, children developed care and responsibility towards the environment and became more aware of the importance of recycling. Sorting the materials encouraged curiosity and discovery, while working together with their families and friends promoted teamwork and a sense of community.
Nursery — Recycled Craft: Creating with What We Have 🎨♻️
What We Did: Nursery children and their parents collected clean recyclable items from home and worked together to transform them into something wonderful. Families used their imagination and creativity to give everyday materials a new purpose.
Materials We Could Use: Cardboard rolls, egg trays, bottle caps, tissue boxes, magazines and paper, as well as other clean recyclable materials found at home.
What Children Learnt: Children discovered that materials we may usually throw away can be reused and transformed into something new. The activity encouraged creativity, imagination, environmental awareness and problem-solving, while strengthening parent-child collaboration.
K1 — Planting Seeds 🌱☀️
What We Did: K1 children explored the process of growing their own plants. They opened their containers, added and spread the soil evenly, placed the seeds on top and covered them with the remaining soil. They then sprinkled water until the soil was damp and placed their containers in a sunny spot.
Over the next two weeks, children checked their plants daily and observed changes in their shape, size and colour. They recorded their discoveries by drawing their observations.
What Children Learnt: Through hands-on planting, children developed an understanding of how plants grow and what they need to survive. They practised care and responsibility, while observing and recording changes strengthened their curiosity, patience, observation and scientific thinking.
K2 — Go Green Pledge Poster 🌍💚
What We Did: K2 children discussed different ways they could care for the Earth and explored a variety of green pledges. Each child chose a pledge that was meaningful to them, created their own poster and shared their pledge with their friends.
Our Green Pledges: 🌱 I care for the Earth by recycling. 💧 I save water every day. ♻️ I reuse items to make new things. 🧹 I keep my surroundings clean. 🐾 I care for plants and animals.
What Children Learnt: The activity encouraged children to recognise that small everyday actions can make a difference to our environment. By choosing and sharing their own pledges, children developed environmental awareness, responsibility and confidence, while inspiring their friends to make greener choices too.
