SSDB Post-Documentation Community Partnership with iC2 PrepHouse- Learning from the Community

As part of our Start Small Dream Big project, "Understanding Abilities, Embracing Differences" M.Y World @ Tampines Greenweave partnered with iC2 PrepHouse Singapore, a charity that supports children and adults with visual impairment. Through a child-friendly sharing, the children learnt what visual impairment is. Swipe through below to see the highlights!

They discovered different eye conditions. They also picked up simple ways to be a kind friend to a visually impaired person. They learned to "always announce yourself", where they need to be patient and to always speak clearly, and ask the visually impaired person before helping.

They then took on the Stick Drop Game, where they closed their eyes or wore blindfolds and relied on touch alone to guide ice cream sticks into a bottle with a small opening. The children also explored Braille and textured books left by iC2, feeling the raised dots and textures with their fingertips.

Turning Learning into Action Inspired by their learning, our children created their own handmade tactile and Braille books as a token of appreciation back to iC2 PrepHouse, transforming their learning into meaningful action.

The values gained from the whole SSDB experience are reflected below.

Small Hands, Meaningful Change

Through this journey, children learnt that inclusion goes beyond recognising differences, it is about seeing the abilities in everyone and making space for everyone to belong.

Our K1 and K2 children showed us that meaningful change can start small, dream big and begin with them!
