As part of our intergenerational activity with the elderly from Allkin Active Ageing Centre, our children had a meaningful and hands-on learning experience through a no-cook ondeh-ondeh making session planned specially for the seniors. The children worked together with the elderly as they explored the process of making traditional ondeh-ondeh by mixing the ingredients, shaping the dough, adding the filling, and coating their creations with grated coconut. Throughout the activity, the children interacted with the seniors, shared conversations, and supported one another during the process. It was an enriching experience that encouraged communication, teamwork, respect, and bonding between generations while allowing the children to appreciate Singapore’s local food culture and traditions.
