Intergenerational Snakes & Ladders Game Session with Allkin Senior Active Ageing Centre

As part of our intergenerational activity with the elderly from Allkin Active Ageing Centre, our children had a meaningful and engaging learning experience through a specially planned Snakes & Ladders game session with the seniors. Prior to the session, the children worked together to create their very own Snakes & Ladders game base, allowing them to contribute their ideas and take ownership of the activity prepared for the elderly. During the session, the children and seniors played together in small groups, taking turns to move their game pieces and count the steps on the board. To enhance the experience, the children incorporated the use of technology by using an iPad with a digital dice application during the game. This provided an opportunity for the children to introduce the seniors to simple technology, while encouraging interaction, communication, and shared learning between both generations. Throughout the activity, the children and elderly exchanged conversations, shared smiles, and encouraged one another during the game. This fun and purposeful session provided opportunities for the children to build confidence, practise patience and turn-taking, and develop respect and appreciation for the elderly. It was a heartwarming experience that strengthened connections between the younger and older generations through creativity, technology, and meaningful play.
