After learning more about the Long-tailed Macaque through our classroom activities, zoo visit, and conversations with the zookeeper, the children were excited to share their learning with their families.
We invited the parents into the classroom to learn more about our SSDB project. The teacher shared the children's KWL chart, showing what the children already knew, what they wanted to find out, and what they had learned about the Long-tailed Macaque. The parents had the opportunity to look at the children's ideas and see how their learning had developed throughout the project.
The children were also excited to show their parents the work they had created. They took out their Long-tailed Macaque posters and shared what they had learned. Some children talked about the macaque and its habitat, while others shared the dos and don'ts when meeting a macaque in the wild.
It was a meaningful moment for the children as they became the little teachers and shared their knowledge with their parents. Through this experience, the children were able to build confidence, practise sharing their ideas, and encourage their families to learn more about and care for Singapore's native wildlife.
