Following the Launch Party in April, the K1 and K2 children learnt about smooth-coated otters, including their characteristics, behaviours and habitats. We also introduced the impact of litter and pollution on otters and their habitats through hands-on learning experiences.

During the June school holidays, we guided the children in developing their own dictated stories about otters. The K1 children created The Lost Baby Otter, while the K2 children developed Be an Otter Protector. They created props and acted out their stories, while the K2 children also created educational posters to raise awareness about appropriate behaviours when encountering otters.

As part of our learning journey, the children visited Singapore Zoo for the Action for Wildlife Junior Programme, where they learnt more about smooth-coated otters and observed them in their enclosure. This allowed them to connect their classroom learning with real-life experiences.

The children also extended their learning at home with their families by creating otter habitats using recyclable materials and developing stories about otters. These activities encouraged family involvement while reinforcing the importance of caring for wildlife and the environment.

To conclude our project, the children showcased their learning and creations at our SSDB Exhibition. They had the opportunity to share their learning journey with their parents and children from other levels, building their confidence in communicating what they had learnt about otters and caring for wildlife.
