The children went on a Learning Adventure to Kok Fah Technology Farm to learn more about sustainability, plants and modern farming practices. The visit gave them an opportunity to see how technology and different farming methods are used to grow plants in a farm environment. They were introduced to how a smart farm operates and explored how plants are cared for from planting to harvesting.

Exploring The Green House They explored different parts of the greenhouse and learnt about how the greenhouse provides a suitable environment for plants to grow. The children observed the different areas and equipment used to support plant growth, such as the growing structures and systems that help provide plants with water and suitable conditions. They used their senses to explore the greenhouse, touching leaves, observing different plant sizes and colours, and noticing the different textures and smells. The children were also introduced to the Aloe Vera plant and learnt about its characteristics and uses.

Exploring Hydroponics & Planting microgreens The children also learnt about hydroponic farming and participated in transplanting seedlings into a hydroponic growing system. As part of their experience, children potted their own microgreens, learning how to prepare the pot, place the seeds and care for them.

Harvesting During the harvesting activity, the children learnt how fresh produce is collected and had the opportunity to harvest some of the crops themselves. These activities allowed them to make connections with their SSDB sustainable edible garden project, as they had previously learnt about planting, caring for plants and harvesting produce. Some questions asked by the children included "how do plants grow without soil?", "how do they receive water ?" and "where does the food we eat comes from?".

Overall, the visit provided children with meaningful hands-on experiences to understand how plants are grown and how technology can support sustainable farming. They enjoyed exploring the greenhouse, taking part in planting and harvesting activities, and were proud to bring home their own potted microgreens and freshly harvested produce. The experience helped them develop a better understanding of food production and encouraged them to appreciate the importance of growing and caring for plants.
