Continuing our SSDB project, our Nursery - K2s had the “A Bowl of Rice” activity. We started with a discussion: “What kinds of food do we get to eat every day? What food do you think people in need may or may not have access to?” The children shared many thoughtful ideas about variety, nutrition, and choice. For lunch, each child was served a portion of plain rice only — to experience, in a small way, what some people in our community may have to eat daily due to limited access to food. After eating, the children shared how they felt. Many said it was “boring”, “not enough”, or “I wish I had vegetables”. This helped them understand and empathise with the people that Food Bank Singapore supports, and why our fundraising and donation efforts matter. Through this simple bowl of rice, our children learnt that having daily, healthy meals is a privilege — and that with the SSDB project they can help our community in need
