At The Growing Academy - Selaseh, we believe that every child has something to contribute. Throughout the Start Small Dream Big Community Garden Project, our children are learning that caring for our environment can start with small, everyday actions.

Working together with NParks and our community partners, our children are taking part in caring for a shared garden plot right across from our center (Jalan Selaseh Park). Through planting, watering, weeding, observing, and harvesting, they are learning to care for living things while developing responsibility, patience, teamwork, and confidence.

More importantly, the garden gives our children a chance to give back to the community. By caring for a shared space, they are learning that even small contributions can help make our neighbourhood a greener and happier place.

🌱 Our Garden Journey So Far...

April 2026 - Getting Started We began by planning the project, connecting with our community partners, and exploring how our children could take part in caring for a community garden.

May 2026 - Preparing Our Garden Teachers prepared gardening activities and introduced the project to our families. Our parents also came together to support the project through a donation drive, contributing gardening tools, materials, and seeds.

Early June 2026 - Getting Our Hands Dirty Our children got involved in preparing the garden plot. They helped to level the soil, prepare the garden beds, and put up fencing. It was their first step towards making the space their own.

June 2026 - Time to Plant 🌱 The children explored different plants and chose what they wanted to grow. They then got their hands into the soil and planted their seeds and seedlings.

July 2026 Onwards - Growing & Caring Our garden became part of our weekly routine! Classes took turns caring for the garden, watering the plants, checking on their growth, and helping to keep the space tidy.

Alongside our outdoor sessions, the children also take part in environment- and outdoor-related activities in class, exploring topics such as plants, nature, food, and sustainability through hands-on activities, sensory exploration, experiments, and art.

As our plants grow, so do our children. Every visit to the garden is an opportunity to practice being responsible, working together, making observations, and caring for something beyond themselves.

Through small hands and small actions, our children are learning that everyone can play a part in caring for our community and our planet.
