SSDB 2026 Project Conclusion – Healthy Living

For SSDB 2026, our N2 to K2 children embarked on a project centered on the theme of Healthy Living, with a focus on eating well, sleeping well, staying active and developing positive habits in our daily lives. The project was also connected to the three SSDB themes of Caring for Nature and the Environment, Caring for Family and Friends, and Caring for the Community.

Approximately children 100 participated in the project, comprising N2, K1 and K2 children.

We launched the project in June in an engaging opening session using PowerPoint slides, music, dances and gross motor activities to introduce the children to healthy living and the importance of taking care of our bodies. Throughout the month of June, children took part in various activities to explore healthy and less healthy food choices. They learned that some foods are suitable for regular consumption, while others are better enjoyed only occasionally.

The children also explored different food packaging brought in with the support of parents. They examined the packaging and looked for health-related logos and labels, including the Nutri-Grade markings (Grade A, B, C and D) and the Healthier Choice Symbol. These experiences helped children become more aware of how they can make healthier choices when selecting food.

The project was also linked to Caring for Nature and the Environment through conversations about littering and the responsible disposal of food packaging. Children learned that caring for the environment includes putting rubbish and packaging into the appropriate bins instead of leaving them on the ground. They were encouraged to develop responsible habits that contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone.

In relation to Caring for Family and Friends, children were encouraged to share what they had learned about healthy eating and healthy habits with their families. They discussed ways to practice healthy living at home, such as making healthier food choices, being physically active, getting sufficient sleep and keeping their surroundings clean.

The project culminated in a real-world supermarket experience for our K2 children, who had the opportunity to visit the supermarket located just below our school. During the visit, the children applied what they had learned in class by looking at actual food products and their packaging. They were encouraged to identify the health labels and make comparisons between different food choices. This provided an authentic learning experience and helped the children understand how the knowledge they gained in school could be applied when making choices in their everyday lives.

Following this, the N2 to K2 children also participated in a pretend supermarket experience set up within the school. They had the opportunity to "purchase" different food items and examine their packaging and health labels before making their choices. This provided a meaningful and enjoyable way for children to practice making informed decisions about their health.

Through the project, children developed a greater awareness of how their everyday choices can contribute not only to their own well-being, but also to the well-being of their family, friends and wider community. They were encouraged to see that caring can be demonstrated through simple daily actions — choosing healthier foods, taking care of their bodies, disposing of rubbish responsibly and encouraging those around them to adopt healthy habits. The project provided meaningful opportunities for children to learn through play, movement, exploration and hands-on experiences, while nurturing a sense of responsibility towards themselves and others.
