SSDB 2019 - Sharing Joy! (Part 1; Visit to the Nursing Home)

Our children being involved in the introduction and get-to-know session of the nursing home and its group of elderly, conducted by the person-in-charge of the nursing home. They got to learn about the things they should take note of when interacting with the elderly, example: They should always put on their smiles and try their best to share and discuss about positive topics with the elderly.

Prior to the visits to the nursing home, our children have come together to brainstorm activities that are suitable for the elderly and themselves to participate in. They have agreed on performing a sequence of dance and songs for the group of elderly on their first visit.

For their first visit, they performed the songs ‘Looking for a Friend’ and ‘童谣’, both cheerful and happy songs to bring smiles onto the elderly’s faces.

After their song and dance performances for the group of elderly, they move on to a planned hands-on activity - manipulation of Play-Doh on activity sheets. Through this activity, both the elderly and children will benefit greatly because it will help in stimulating their sensory-motor skills as well as their hand-eye coordination. They can also identify different colours with the use of vibrant-coloured Play-Doh.
