Our SSDB Journey Begins

As part of our Start Small Dream Big project, “Small Hands, Big Hearts: Sharing Joy with SWAMI Home,” we wanted our children to experience what it means to care for and give back to the community. We reached out to SWAMI Home to find out how we could support their residents and learned about the high consumption items that were most needed.

Small Contributions, Big Difference

We shared the donation drive with families across our preschool and were heartened by their generous response. Families contributed various items based on the needs of SWAMI Home. Through this experience, we wanted our children to understand that no contribution is too small, as every act of giving can make a difference when a community comes together.

Bringing Our Contributions to SWAMI Home

Our K1 and K2 children were given the meaningful opportunity to visit SWAMI Home and personally present the donated items. We were also grateful for the support of parent volunteers who helped us carry the donated items to the bus before our journey. Beyond giving material items, we wanted the children to share something equally valuable: their time, joy and companionship.

Sharing Joy Through Music and Play

The children prepared a special performance for the residents, beginning with “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley, accompanied by their teachers on the ukulele and shaker. We also sang familiar favourites such as “Home,” “Chan Mali Chan” and “Baby Shark.”

The children then played Bingo together with the residents. Each child partnered with an elderly resident and helped to look out for the numbers being called. It was heartwarming to see the children interacting, guiding and celebrating together with them.

Small Hands, Big Hearts

We ended our visit with full hearts and many happy smiles. The children experienced that caring for the community goes beyond giving things. It can also mean giving our time, showing kindness and bringing happiness to someone else.

Seeing the smiles shared between our children and the residents made the experience especially meaningful. Through this SSDB journey, our children discovered that even the smallest hands can make a big difference when they give with a big heart.
