Rickshaw Pullers

In conjunction with the project on ‘Singapore Little Treasures, we went for a field trip to Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall to enrich the understanding of Chinese Heritage for children of K1.

Dr. Sun Yat Sen, who chose Singapore as the centre of his revolutionary movement in Southeast Asia, and Teo Eng Hock, who offered the Wan Qing Yuan villa to Dr. sun to support his revolutionary activities and Lim Nee Soon, were introduced to the children of K1 during the trip. To enhance children’s learning, purposeful heritage pop-up kits were used during the field trip so that children can relate better with some concrete materials.

In school, the topic on Chinese Heritage were extended deeper on the evolution of trishaw riders. The children were introduced to the evolution three-wheeler trishaws from rickshaws

Dramatic centre of early years was set up whereby children got the chance to experience and work as rickshaw pullers and pull the rickshaws with customer sitting on it. Children had a chance to understand the concept on providing a service (picking and dropping customer to their destinated venue) to earn a living (even on rainy days).

They also had a chance to experience on how people of early years led their life through having simple meal and a place to rest after a long day work.

Parent volunteers participated children’s learning by supporting the sharings with the teachers.

Together, we worked with parents volunteers and community, involved in introducing Chinese Heritage to the children.
