As part of our SSDB journey, our K2 children participated in RetroGems, an intergenerational board game experience with seniors from NTUC Health Active Ageing Centre @ Whampoa.
Through playing the board game together, children and seniors had opportunities to connect across generations in a fun and meaningful way. The children learnt to explain and follow the rules of the game, take turns, communicate with the seniors and encourage one another as they played.
More than simply completing the game, the experience created opportunities for conversations, laughter and companionship. As the children became more comfortable interacting with the seniors, they learnt to listen patiently, offer help when needed and show respect and consideration.
Through RetroGems, values such as Caring and Respect were brought to life through authentic interactions. The children discovered that play can bring people of different generations together and that simple actions — inviting someone to play, waiting for their turn, helping one another and sharing a laugh — can build meaningful connections.
The experience showed our children that they are never too young to contribute to their community. Through the simple joy of playing together, our K2 children and the seniors created shared memories while strengthening connections across generations.
