As part of our Centre’s partnership with the Read for Good Movement by NLB, the Values Committee collaborated with the MK Reads Committee to engage our children in a meaningful reading-for-a-cause experience. The project aimed to nurture a love for reading while encouraging children to understand the importance of giving back to the community.

Teachers introduced the project, explained how the children could contribute through their reading, and shared who the beneficiaries were. Children learnt that their individual efforts, when combined, could collectively make a positive difference to others.

Children participated in small-group reading sessions, where they were given opportunities to choose and read books of interest, contributing to the Read for Good initiative. The children were highly engaged and focused during these sessions, demonstrating enthusiasm, perseverance, and responsibility as they read with a clear purpose in mind.

Through this project, children developed a greater awareness of care, kindness, responsibility, respect, and giving. They learnt that giving back does not always require a big action; even a simple activity such as reading a book can contribute to helping others. This experience encouraged children to see themselves as active contributors to the community and understand how their small individual efforts can create a meaningful collective impact. It also strengthened their appreciation for reading and encouraged them to read purposefully while developing empathy towards those in need.
