Our Eco Hub, MK@Pioneer's recycled corner, was thoughtfully created with sustainability in mind, with the purpose of helping children develop an awareness and appreciation for environmental sustainability through meaningful, hands-on experiences. The corner provides opportunities for children to learn about reducing waste, reusing materials, and practising responsible habits in their daily lives. As part of our curriculum, it supports children's learning by teaching them how to recycle and segregate different kinds of recyclables, encouraging exploration, discussions, and active participation in real-life experiences. It also allows children to take ownership of their environment while nurturing values such as responsibility, care, and respect for the world around them. To ensure that the idea of sustainability is communicated clearly, most elements of the corner was made using recycled materials. The name of the corner was creatively designed using recycled cereal boxes, with the background of the sign made from poly mailers collected from used mail packaging. The labels and wordings displayed around the area were created using recycled paper. The posters and pictures placed on the bins were contributed and coloured by the students, giving them a sense of ownership and encouraging active participation. Even the background and decorative elements throughout the corner were made from recycled materials, reinforcing the importance of reusing everyday items and promoting environmental awareness in a meaningful and engaging way. The impact of the Eco Hub extends beyond the classroom, sparking meaningful conversations at home as well. The mother of Yang You Yi (Joy) from K1 Stadium shared how the recyclable donation drive brought their family together: "It provided an opportunity for us to discuss Reduce, Reuse and Recycling at home, and do it together. Joy learnt to identify what can be recycled and she was glad to bring them to school for recycling. I am sure her active participation in this activity raises her awareness of sustainable living." Joy's experience is a heartening reminder of how small, intentional steps in school can inspire lasting habits and a deeper sense of environmental responsibility in our children.
