MK@Sembawang SSDB 2024: Caring For The Elderly

Following time spent with grandparents and elderly neighbors, the children eagerly readied for their visit to Sunshine Welfare Action Mission (SWAMI) Home. K1 children crafted trophies from reusable cups, painting and decorating them, and filled each with a box of Axe oil. Meanwhile, K2 children designed SSDB banners and prepared craft materials for the elderly.

To show our care for the elderly at SWAMI Home, our school united to provide essential items. With the support of families, we gathered bottles of Axe medicated oil, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. We also received generous donations of Nestle Milo, Nespray fortified milk powder, and Abbott’s Glucerna Triple Care. A big thank you to the Parent Support Group (PSG) for their help in packing these donations!

During our SWAMI Home visit, the children enjoyed engaging with the elderly through simple motor skill games like parachute ball, bean bag toss, and seated soccer, along with a windmill craft. We also celebrated National Day and held a birthday party for the August birthdays. This event highlighted how intergenerational activities create valuable experiences for both young and old. It emphasized inclusivity and mutual respect, making the day memorable and meaningful for everyone involved.

To conclude our SSDB project, the children took home a door hanger kit to share with their grandparents, elderly relatives, or neighbors. This activity taught them the importance of showing love and care for others. Here are some pictures of the children presenting their completed door hangers!
