The Start Small, Dream Big (SSDB) Launch Day began with a big group session for the N2, K1 and K2 children at Bay 1. The session was conducted by Teacher Aqilah and introduced the children to the theme of caring for nature and the environment, with a focus on gardening, recycling and how small actions can make a positive difference.
The session began with an introduction and sharing, where Teacher Aqilah engaged the children in a discussion about plants, gardens and the different ways they can care for nature. The children were encouraged to share their prior experiences and ideas about gardening and caring for plants.
This was followed by an engaging storytelling session, which allowed the children to learn about caring for nature through a familiar and meaningful story. The children listened attentively and responded to questions and prompts throughout the story.
The children then participated in a game and movement activity, where they had opportunities to move, follow instructions and reinforce the key messages shared during the session. The activity created an energetic and enjoyable learning experience while encouraging the children to work together and participate actively.
Children participated in a fun and exciting Green Garden Fashion Parade. Children came dressed in green outfits, farmer or gardener costumes, and nature-themed attire to represent the theme of caring for nature and the environment.
The children proudly took turns walking along the parade area and showcasing their outfits to their friends. They were excited to see the different costumes and creative ways their friends represented the gardening and nature theme. Teachers also participated in the fashion parade, creating a joyful and inclusive atmosphere.
To conclude the session, a Best Dressed Award was presented to one child from each class and one teachers who came dressed in green outfits, farmer or gardener costumes, or nature-themed attire. The children were excited to see their friends being recognised, and the activity added a fun and celebratory element to the launch.
The K1 and K2 children participated in a Plastic Pot Decoration activity using recyclable materials. Each child brought a plastic bottle or container from home and transformed it into a creative plant pot. The children decorated their containers using paint, stickers, markers and various recycled materials. They enjoyed making their own creative choices while learning that used items can be reused and given a new purpose.
The children participated in a garden-themed activity according to their level. N2: Children assembled and pasted the different cut-out parts of plants onto a given template to create a complete plant or flower. They explored the different parts of a plant while developing their fine motor skills through handling, positioning and pasting the pieces. K1: Children assembled and pasted cut-out plants onto a given template to create a complete garden. They made decisions about where to place the different plants and developed their understanding of how different plants can be arranged within a garden. K2: Children were given the opportunity to design and draw their own garden, thinking about how they would like their garden to look. They also wrote down the things they would like to include in their garden and shared their favourite part of the garden, explaining their choices to their teachers and friends.
Recycle Relay Race The children participated in the Recycle Relay Race, an active game where they practised their gross motor skills through hopping and jumping. They moved along the course to collect and sort different materials into recyclable and non-recyclable categories. The activity developed children's balance, coordination and body control while reinforcing their understanding of recycling. It also encouraged teamwork, turn-taking and cooperation as children worked together to complete the challenge.
