1. Project Introduction “Why is exercise important?” The children’s curiosity about exercise sparked the beginning of an exciting learning journey. Through daily movement activities, conversations and exploration, the children discovered how exercise helps to keep our bodies strong, healthy and active. As they explored different ways to move and stay fit, they began to understand that exercise is beneficial not only for themselves, but for people of all ages. As their understanding grew, a new question emerged: “Can we help others stay healthy too?” This simple question became the inspiration for the children to embark on their Start Small, Dream Big journey as Little Fitness Heroes. ________________________________________ 2. Children’s Voices – The Spark of the Project The project was driven by the children’s natural curiosity and desire to learn more. Children wondered: • “From whom can we understand better about fitness?” • “I would like to learn more about it!” • “I want to be a Little Fitness Hero!” Their questions encouraged them to look beyond the classroom and learn from people with professional knowledge and experience in fitness and health. 3. Learning from Fitness Professionals To deepen their understanding of healthy living and active lifestyles, the children participated in fitness sessions conducted by professionals. Through these sessions, they learnt about the importance of regular exercise and were introduced to different forms of physical activity.

The children explored: • Stretching • Balancing • Strengthening • Coordination • Simple movement exercises • The importance of staying active every day

One of the professionals who supported the children's learning was Joaan, a physiotherapist. “I am a Physiotherapist. My name is Joaan. I would like to show you some of the benefits of certain exercises that improve our health. Are you ready?” Through demonstrations and hands-on participation, the children gained a better understanding of how different exercises can support physical health and well-being. ________________________________________ 4. Learning That Exercise Can Be Fun The children also had the opportunity to participate in an engaging exercise session conducted by Professional Fitness Trainer, Ms Rajeswari. Ms Rajeswari introduced the children to simple and enjoyable physical activities through fun demonstrations and movements. The session encouraged the children to discover that exercise does not have to be difficult or tiring. Instead, exercise can be: Fun • Exciting • Enjoyable • Meaningful

The children enthusiastically followed the demonstrations and participated actively throughout the session. Through this interactive experience, they developed a positive attitude towards physical activity and began to see exercise as something that could become a natural and enjoyable part of their daily lives. ________________________________________ 5. Creativity in Fitness – Reusing What We Have As the children continued their exploration, they made an important discovery: We do not need expensive equipment to exercise! With creativity and resourcefulness, the children transformed everyday materials into simple fitness tools. Our Sustainable Fitness Tools • Mineral water bottles → Dumbbells • Playdough → Hand-strengthening stress balls • Towels → Stretching aids By reusing materials that were already available around them, the children learnt that staying active can be simple, accessible and sustainable. This experience also encouraged them to think about how everyday objects can be reused and repurposed instead of being thrown away. The children discovered that being a Little Fitness Hero could also mean caring for the environment. ________________________________________ 6. From Learners to Junior Fitness Instructors Inspired by the fitness professionals they had met, the children began to see themselves in a new role. They became Junior Fitness Instructors. The children practised: • Demonstrating simple exercises • Following and remembering exercise routines • Giving clear instructions • Encouraging others to participate • Working together as a team • Adapting activities for different age groups They especially focused on preparing simple and safe exercises that could be enjoyed by senior members of the community. The children were excited to share what they had learnt and were eager to put their knowledge into action.

________________________________________ 7. Taking Fitness Beyond the Classroom The children’s learning journey continued beyond the classroom when they had the opportunity to meet elderly residents in the community. With enthusiasm and confidence, the children took on the role of Junior Fitness Instructors and guided the seniors through simple exercises. Using the sustainable fitness tools they had created, the children demonstrated the movements they had learnt from the fitness professionals. They encouraged the seniors to participate and supported them throughout the activities. There were smiles, laughter, encouragement and joyful interactions between the children and seniors. The children were proud to share their knowledge, while the seniors enjoyed the physical activities as well as the companionship and encouragement provided by the young fitness heroes. ________________________________________ I. A brief summary of the project- The Outcome and Impact Through this community experience, the children discovered something very important: Even small children can make a big difference. They realised that they could use their knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to contribute positively to the community. The project helped the children develop: • Confidence – as they stood in front of others and demonstrated exercises • Communication skills – as they gave instructions and encouraged participants • Empathy – as they considered the needs of the elderly • Teamwork – as they planned and carried out activities together • Social responsibility – as they used their learning to help others • Leadership skills – as they took on the role of Junior Fitness Instructors • Creativity and resourcefulness – as they transformed everyday materials into fitness tools At the same time, the seniors benefited from opportunities to move, exercise, interact and enjoy meaningful companionship with the children. Bringing the Learning Home The children's mission did not end with their community visit. Inspired by their experiences, they continued to promote healthy living within their own families. The children shared simple exercises with their family members and encouraged their loved ones to stay active at home. They also demonstrated how everyday household items could be reused as simple exercise tools. In doing so, the children showed that healthy living and sustainability can begin with small actions at home. Little Fitness Heroes, Big Dreams Through this journey, the children learnt that small actions, when carried out with care and purpose, can create meaningful impact. They discovered that they can inspire others to stay active, promote healthy living, care for the environment and build stronger connections within their community. Their journey reminds us that every big change can begin with one small step.
