Our SSDB 2026 project, “Little Acts of Love for Those Around Us,” was inspired by our desire to help children understand that caring begins with the people closest to them and can gradually extend to the wider community. Through meaningful experiences, children explored different ways of showing love, kindness, gratitude and respect towards their grandparents, family members, friends, teachers and

Children began by learning about the importance of spending quality time with their grandparents. They created tissue box crafts as a meaningful way of showing love and appreciation towards them. Children also explored their family structures by creating family trees. Through this activity, they identified the important people in their lives, developed a stronger sense of belonging and learnt that every family is unique.

Children learnt that simple acts of appreciation can make others feel valued. They created thank-you cards for their family members, teachers, friends and neighbours, providing opportunities for them to reflect on the people who care for and support them and to express their gratitude through thoughtful gestures.

Through our Friendship Village and Racial Harmony activities, children explored Singapore’s diverse cultures and learnt about the importance of respecting people from different backgrounds. They discovered that although we may have different cultures and traditions, we can live harmoniously by showing kindness, respect, friendship and care towards our neighbours and one another.

Throughout the project, children were encouraged to put their learning into action by demonstrating acts of kindness. They earned leaves to add to our Kindness Tree, with each leaf representing a positive action. As the tree grew, children could see how their individual little acts of love and kindness collectively contributed towards creating a more caring community.

Through these experiences, children developed empathy, kindness, gratitude, respect, inclusiveness and responsibility. They learnt that caring begins with their families but can extend to their friends, teachers, neighbours and the wider community. Most importantly, children discovered that even the smallest acts of love and kindness can make a positive difference to those around them.
