The K1 and K2 children participated in a meaningful Learning Journey to the Bloodbank in partnership with Red Cross Junior to learn about blood donation. Through an engaging presentation, they discovered why blood donation is important, that donors must be at least 16 years old, and that one blood donation can help save up to three lives. They also learned about the three blood components—plasma, platelets, and red blood cells—as well as the four blood types: A, B, O, and AB. The children had the opportunity to observe the blood donation process, from registration and the haemoglobin test to the donor interview and the actual blood donation. They gained a better understanding of how healthcare professionals and donors work together to help others. The children further reinforced their learning through role-play, taking on the roles of doctors, nurses, and donors using props such as forms, a thermometer, a blood pressure monitor, a blood bag, and a stress ball. The Learning Journey was both engaging and educational, and the children were delighted to receive goodies such as stress balls and plasters from Red Cross Junior.
