A picture of a mystery object (Gravitrap) was shown to us. We discussed and shared our thoughts with one another on what we think it could be. Some of us think that it is a compost bin, where else most of us think that it could be a mosquito trap.

Then, we worked in groups to draw out our plans on how we can be sure that the mystery object is what we think.

Children shared about how they are going to find out the mystery object.

Most of us wanted to go outdoor to find out what the mystery object is. One of the groups decided that they want to find out about the mystery object through Google Search.

1 July 2022

We executed our plan by going outdoor, to our neighborhood to find out what the mystery object is.

We walked around every parts in our neighborhood, from the lift lobby, to the letterbox area, and the bicycle bay, to see if we could find the mystery object.

Children walking all around the neighborhood to see if they can find the mystery object.

Then, we noticed three big cylinder bins placed on the grass patch. We pondered and concluded that the three cylinder bins are not the one that we are looking for as they are not in black and it has no words on it too.

Children spotted something with the same shape as the mystery object.

Thus, we continued our journey in search of the mystery object again.

Along the way, we saw a banner that has Aedes mosquito on it. It says that the construction site aims for ZERO dengue breeding ground.

Children noticed a dengue related banner.

We also saw a digital platform promoting awareness of dengue to the residents here through displaying the Mozzie wipeout B-L-O-C-K and how being infected with dengue would feel like through a poster.

Children noticed a digital platform that displays information about Dengue.

Later on, we suggested to our teachers that we can go up to level two to see if we could find it.

Along the corridor at level two, we spotted one object that could be what we are looking for. After going close, we are very certain that it is the thing that we are looking for as it looks similar in all parts.

“How come it is so small?”, ”So small?!” We realized that it is so much smaller in real life. In fact, we didn’t know that it is this small.

Children spotted a Gravitrap outside a unit.

A Gravitrap found outside a unit.

As we continue to walk down the corridor, we spotted two more Gravitraps placed outside the unit.

Children found two more Gravitraps along the corridor.

“Just now it was 2A, now is 2B on the container”, “ Will there be 2C?” Later we will see 2C” We wondered as we continue to walk.

We took turn to see what is inside the Gravitrap. We a all saw a net inside.

Children looking in the hole of the Gravitrap.

We all agree that this is a mosquito trap. Mosquitoes will fly into it and never get out.

After that we continue our journey and noticed potential breeding grounds such as hardened soil, pail and flowerpot plate not overturned.
