As part of our Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project, the children were given opportunities to explore gardening and develop an appreciation for nature through meaningful, hands-on experiences. 🌿 Learning with NParks Our teachers participated in a hands-on planting session conducted by NParks, where they learnt about planting techniques, soil preparation and caring for plants. The knowledge and skills gained from the session were brought back into the classroom to support the children’s gardening experiences. 💧 Caring for Our Plants The children took an active role in caring for our garden. They learnt to water the plants, observe their growth and understand that plants need water, sunlight, soil and care to grow. Through these daily routines, the children developed a sense of responsibility and respect for living things. 🌱 Hands-On Gardening The children explored soil, seeds and plants through hands-on gardening activities. They had opportunities to touch and feel the soil, plant seeds and observe changes over time. Using recycled tyres as planters also helped the children see how everyday materials can be reused creatively to support a greener environment. 🐝 Learning Through a Sustainability Performance The children also participated in an engaging performance featuring characters inspired by nature and insects. Through the interactive storytelling and presentation, they learnt about the importance of caring for our environment and the role that living things play in nature. Parental Involvement By involving families in our gardening journey, we strengthened the partnership between home and school while encouraging children to develop positive environmental habits. Together, we hope to inspire our little gardeners to understand that every small action contributes to a greener and more sustainable future. Through this hands-on experience, parents and children worked together to water and care for the plants in our preschool garden. This meaningful interaction provided opportunities for parents to guide their children while fostering sense of responsibility, teamwork and appreciation for nature. 🌍 Our Learning Through these experiences, the children are beginning to understand that small actions can make a difference. By planting, watering, observing and caring for our garden, they are developing responsibility, curiosity, teamwork and a growing sense of environmental awareness. “Little hands can make a big difference — one plant, one drop of water and one caring action at a time.” 🌱💚
