Eshkol Valley @PPCC 2023 SSDB Learning Story #5 - SSDB Launch Project: Let's Do the Ocean Jam on World Ocean Day

Trash in the ocean can trap animals easily. Unlike humans, the marine creatures do not have hands to untangle themselves from fishing nets or plastic packaging rings. Their dire state will prevent them from eating or swimming, and can even cause them to drown! - this key message was imprinted in our children’s mind by the hermit crab Hershie in the story “ A Crab, a Shell, and a Little Help”.  In conjunction with the World Oceans Day on June 8, we spent an entire morning with many hands-on engaging activities after the storytelling to draw our little ones’ attention to the wonders of the deep blue sea and how important our planet ‘s seas and oceans are to life and livelihood.

At the end of the day, our children were delighted to bring home their lovely ocean crafts and a copy of the “A Crab, a Shell and a Little Help” activity book. What’s more, they were thrilled to hear that there will be a marine biologist visiting them soon to share about coral reefs conservation programme in Singapore. What an exciting learning opportunity awaiting for them at their next level of discovery of our amazing ocean world!
