Empathise, Understand and Befriend... The Journey to care for the Elderly around us

Children brought family photos from home to share in class how they spend time with the elderly in their family. They self made a learning journal to document little kind acts towards the elderly around them, like holding the lift for an elderly, pouring water for Grandparents or giving them a light massage at times. Through the Show and Tell sessions, classmates were encouraged to role model such positive behaviour.

Children also had several class discussion on what they can do to help the elderly around them. Examples include walk slowly with the elderly, help them take grocery, call or video call them to chit chat over the weekends.

Children learnt about the public housing with senior friendly design features, Community Care apartments. They became more conscious of the handrails and ramps in the neighbourhood. They made heart shaped cards to give to the elderly in their neighbourhood to show their care and concerns.
