At the start of their Inquiry project of the theme, "Caring for our Earth", the children wondered and thought deeper about smooth-coated otters as they recently saw a group of it in Sengkang Reservoir. They had questions about the smooth-coated otters which they posed the questions through an interview with the teachers in the school to find out more. They had small group discussions about how rubbish such as plastics and nets are affecting these animals and their source of food. This leads them to Dramatization as they acted out to be people walking in the neighbourhood, otters and NParks officers/ACRES.

Building on their curiosity, the children prepared questions for the zookeepers to find out more about other inquiries such as its characteristics and what is happening to them. They visited Singapore Mandai Zoo for the Mandai Wildlife Junior Programme where they learnt more about how human-wildlife conflict is affecting the smooth-coated otters. They got to have a close-up observation of the Asian clawed otters at their enclosure, observing its movement, characteristics, habitat and listening to the sounds they made to communicate to each other. During the programme, the book 'Little Otter, Little Trouble' was read to them for them to understand how our rubbish are polluting and hurting the waters where these wildlife are. They also received a T-Shirt from them after the programme.

Children designed their own poster of 'Join us to save the Earth', coming up with their own heading, placement of the items on the poster which they used a recycled cardboard. They drew pictures of how they are practicing in saving the Earth and created an empty list for parents, community and staffs to join them in this movement.

Parents were invited to their School's Garden (M.Y Naturescape) to listen to their sharing and joined them by giving their signature! A token of appreciation (keychain or bookmark) was given to parents.

They also went to the people in the community, bravely asking them if they would want to listen to their sharing and as they shared, people were more aware of how they too can save the Earth and how our small actions matters.

Lastly, they did sharing with the staffs and K1 children in the centre, getting more signatures and creating more awareness to others!

They encouraged everyone to save the Earth so that our animals such as the Smooth-coated otter has a proper place to live and food to eat here in Singapore. This demonstrated the Core Values of Respect, Caring and Responsibility!
