As part of the Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project, our centre at Block 143 launched the initiative in April with a meaningful family engagement activity. Prior to the launch, leaf-shaped cut-outs were prepared for parents to write messages of encouragement and aspirations together with their children. During the event, families decorated their leaves and placed them on a symbolic tree display, representing their shared commitment to growth and learning. The activity saw enthusiastic participation from both parents and children, with families actively engaging in the launch and contributing to a vibrant and inspiring display of support.

During the session, parents and children also participated in a pledge-making activity, where they created meaningful pledges that reflected their commitment to taking small but consistent steps towards learning, kindness, and personal growth. These pledges symbolised their shared vision of building a more confident, capable, and successful future through perseverance and continuous effort. Beyond creating the pledges, the activity provided valuable opportunities for parents and children to bond, reflect on their goals, and recognise that every small action can make a positive difference. It also reinforced the importance of strong home-centre partnerships in nurturing children's holistic development and fostering a lifelong love for learning.

As part of the SSDB project, we involved both parents and grandparents in a home-based activity to promote family bonding and encourage children to show care and appreciation for their loved ones. Activity sheets were sent home for children to complete together with their family members through thumb printing and by writing short, meaningful messages expressing their love, gratitude, and commitment to caring for one another.

The response from families was overwhelmingly positive, with both parents and grandparents participating enthusiastically in the activity. Children thoroughly enjoyed creating the thumb prints alongside their family members, while the heartfelt messages written on the activity sheets reflected the strong bonds and values shared within each family. Through this meaningful experience, children developed a deeper appreciation for the importance of family relationships, empathy, and gratitude. The activity also strengthened home-centre partnerships by encouraging families to actively participate in the SSDB project and work together in nurturing values that contribute to a caring and inclusive community.

Closure Activity – Kindness Chain To conclude the SSDB project, each child was given a coloured paper to complete together with their family. As a family, they discussed and wrote down one act of kindness that the child would carry out at home before completing the activity. The completed papers were then linked together to form a Kindness Chain, with each link representing a child's personal commitment to spreading kindness within their family and community.

The children were excited to see their individual contributions come together to create one large chain, recognizing that every small act of kindness can make a meaningful difference. They took pride in sharing the kind actions they had carried out with their families, reinforcing the values of empathy, compassion, and responsibility. The Kindness Chain became a powerful symbol of the love, care, and kindness demonstrated throughout the SSDB project, illustrating how small actions, when combined, can build a stronger, more caring, and inclusive community.

Overall, the SSDB project successfully strengthened partnerships between the centre and families while nurturing caring, responsible, and compassionate young citizens. Through meaningful family involvement and purposeful acts of kindness, children learned that every small action has the power to create a positive impact and contribute towards building a brighter and more inclusive future for all.
